For all those who wish to reach out with Christ to make a difference in someone's life, this is the place! We are involved in Local, National, and International Mission projects.
CURRENT and UPCOMING Missions: Discovery Arts. Bedside adventure boxes for children in the hospital with critical illness. These boxes contain craft supplies...stickers, scissors, glue sticks, glitter, craft paper, ribbon. Would you like to donate any of these items or donate towards the cost? Think of the joy a Discovery Box can bring to a sick child. We have receieved enough materials for 10 boxes, which was our mission goal. We are happy to receive more at any time for this cause. Care Giver Kits & Bicycle for World Vision. Recently, we completed 25 World Vision Care-Giver kits. These kits will most liikely be going to Nigeria. We will next be raising money for a Bicycle, so that Volunteers will be able to reach folks in far off villages with the help of "wheels." If you choose to donate to this, please mark your church check "Kitty Welch Mem. - Bicycle." NORTH HOLLYWOOD INTERFAITH FOOD PANTRY WISH LIST Each bag distributed at the Pantry contains the following non-perisable items: BRING A CAN TO CHURCH ON SUNDAY!
RECENT Missions: This Easter 2010, members of our congregation united and bought, assembled, and delivered filled Easter Baskets to homeless kids at the Valley Rescue Mission. See article here from the Daily News. Aids Care-Giver Kits. Volunteers in many parts of our world travel by bicycle to bring loving care to those suffering form aids. They bring with them a kit containing basic supplies such as soap, gloves, petroleum jelly, coton balls, acetaminophen, water purifying tablets, oral re-hydration salts, flash light and batteries. Notes of encouragement will also be written and enclosed in each package. We are working with World Vision to order the supplies in bulk and they will ship them. On Aug 19th, 18 ladies from the Mission Team and Ruth Circle prepared 25 boxes for shipment. We are told that the most important item was the handwritten note of encouragement and prayer. A team of four people from our local church, along with 5 others spent one week assisting in rebuiding a burned church in Phenix Alabama this past August 2009. Our Pastor reports that "this may have been one of the most gratifying of trips because we were reallly able to see the progress made. Installation of all the dry wall, and the installation of three of five doors made a major transformation." Thank you to all who donated towards the $3500 cost of the trip, and to any who may still donate, you may make your checks out to the church, and mark that is is for "Arson Re-Build Team." Thank you to all who supported the UMCOR (United Methodist Comittee on Relief) request for donations to the "Cleaning Buckets" project at Annual Conference this year. We were able to send $620 dollars. Good Job! In times of disaster, these buckets, filled with cleaning supplies, will be ready to supply much needed help. We raised $1500 for livestock to be shipped to those in need. These animals will help folks to earn a living and in time to pass on offspring to other families.
LOCAL: Involvement with the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission, a private organization that is one of the few serving the Valley's estimated 11,000 homeless, 8,000 of whom are homeless each night. Typically, 50% living there are children. If you have anything to donate, don't worry about transportation, just give them a call (818) 785-4476 and someone will come pick it up.
NATIONAL: Our Mission Team recently raised over $1000 dollars at our mock radio show KRBM Red Bird Mission. The proceeds will go to Red Bird Mission in Kentucky, whom we sponsor. View pictures
INTERNATIONAL: CROP WALK--This year's Crop Walk will take place November 9th. Each year this walk is held to raise money and awareness for hunger relief. Please join us in our walk for food. View pictures Operation Gratitude--Creating and sending care packages for soldiers overseas. Operation Gratitude was started by the compassion of a woman who saw the incredible need of one soldier at an airport. Since then, she has helped send thousands of packages to American soldiers everywhere. Raising Aids Awareness in Africa through World Vision. Did you know that nearly 40 million people live with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Nearly 2 million of these are children. Each day 8,000 people die of AIDS--almost 3 million a year. Heifer Project-- "Teach a man to fish" has been the philosophy behind Heifer, who provides livestock to people in Third World nations. Each new baby of the original animal, is given to another family in need. "The Gift that keeps on giving." Nothing But Nets--We are raising awareness for this important preventative campaign. Over 1 million children die each year of Malaria, and just a simple net can prevent that.
Stay tuned for updates on our mission!
